TRAVEL

Global education is essential to fostering a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our world and promoting values of justice, equality, and human rights. By exposing individuals to diverse perspectives and experiences, global education broadens their horizons and encourages them to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable society. It empowers individuals to challenge prejudices and stereotypes, fostering a more compassionate and empathetic global community.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” ~ Mark Twain

Embarking on a journey to research the historical significance of various locations while indulging in cultural experiences and traditional cuisine has been a fulfilling lifestyle that I have embraced to the fullest extent, constantly learning and expanding my knowledge. The opportunities to connect with individuals from diverse parts of the world and exchange stories of ancestral heritage have instilled in me a sense of pride and appreciation for my own lineage. Encouraging others to explore their family histories, preserve traditions, and reflect on the hardships of their forefathers in their quest for a better life is a responsibility we all must undertake. It is essential to recognize the impact of our ancestors' lives and deaths and draw inspiration from their incredible stories.

Celebrating the past by connecting to it!

Over the past 15 years, my family and I have lived and traveled to various parts of North America, Central America, and Europe. Our expeditions involve discovering quaint villages with cobblestone streets, abandoned buildings, chateaus, and battlefields, unearthing buried treasures of history. Immersing ourselves in diverse cultures, experimenting with exotic cuisines, and practicing the languages of our forefathers have become the highlights of our adventures. Our journey of self-discovery is linked with the research and construction of our family tree, intertwining it with our travel destinations, historical landmarks, and events that shaped our ancestors' paths and life stories. We are awed by their courage, resilience, and strength, overcoming obstacles to shape the legacy we inherit.

Our journey of tracing our family history is a never-ending quest, continually piquing our interest in world history. It transforms our travels into meaningful experiences, shaping our choices of destinations. Every new discovery encourages us to delve deeper into our past. When we took the DNA test with 23andme, the results opened doors to hundreds of cousins and invaluable information about our heritage, providing us with the perfect roadmap to design a one-of-a-kind itinerary.

WW1 Harold Alex Johnson 86thMachineGun.jpg

Reflecting on my great-grandfather Captain Frederick William Doran's life, born in Belfast, Ireland, on April 11th, 1895, who migrated to Canada with his family in 1908, his story of serving as a soldier in WW1 reveals significant historical facts. I felt a sense of pride and honor when I contributed his war story to the Flanders Field Museum key exhibit in Ypres, Belgium. As younger generations, it is our duty to share the stories and history of our families, never forgetting the sacrifices they made to ensure our freedom.

Reflecting on my ancestors in war I feel, as younger generations, it is our duty to share the stories and history of our families, never forgetting the sacrifices they made to ensure our freedom.

We must recognise and commemorate the sacrifices of these brave men and women who have shaped the course of our history and appreciate the gift of freedom we enjoy today.
