Having travelled to countless historical sites worldwide, ranging from museums and battlefields to the solemn cemeteries of World War One and Two, I am eager to impart the insights and knowledge gained from these journeys. My hope is that my shared experiences will motivate others to embark on their own explorations of the past.

BELGIUM
The Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, also known as the Royal Military Museum, is a military museum that occupies the two northernmost halls of the historic complex in the Parc du Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark in Brussels, Belgium.

The Ghent Altarpiece, also called the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, is a very large and complex 15th-century polyptych altarpiece in St Bavo's Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium.
In Flanders Field Museum
~ Ypres
The In Flanders Fields Museum is a museum in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the study of the First World War. It occupies the second floor of the Cloth Hall on the market square in the city centre. The building was largely destroyed by artillery during the war, but was afterwards reconstructed.
Castle of The Counts

​The Gravensteen is a medieval castle in the city of Ghent, East Flanders in Belgium. The current castle dates from 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a court, prison, mint, and even as a cotton factory.
Fort de Locin

The Fort de Loncin is one of twelve forts built around Liège, Belgium, in the late 19th century. The overall Fortified Position of Liège was a constituent part of the country's National Redoubt. Fort de Loncin was constructed between 1881 and 1884 according to the plans of General Henri Alexis Brialmont.

Home to an extensive collection of original uniforms, weapons, artefacts, and scale models, the Canada-Poland War Museum is one of the most interesting museum of all the ones I have visited. A private institutions preserving memory of the war and liberation of Belgium.

The Waterloo 1815 Memorial (French: Mémorial Waterloo 1815) is a Belgian museum complex located on the site of the Waterloo battlefield in Belgium. It includes a museum inaugurated in 2015, the Lion's Mound, the Panorama of the Battle of Waterloo and the Hougoumont farm.
The Trench Of Death

The Dodengang is a 300 yards (270 m) section of the preserved trench where many soldiers were killed in World War I. The trench was begun at the time of the Battle of the Yser and was defended by soldiers of the Belgian Army. As part of the Yser Front, it played a key role in preserving the front line in this area and stopping further German incursions across the Yser Canal. Belgian soldiers fought here under the most perilous conditions until the final offensive on 28 September 1918.

In World War I, the area around Hooge on Bellewaerde Ridge, about 2.5 mi (4 km) east of Ypres in Flanders in Belgium, was one of the easternmost sectors of the Ypres Salient and was the site of much fighting between German and Allied forces.

Airborne Museum at the Bridge

The Battle of Arnhem war museum is located very close by to the John Frost bridge, which was made famous in world war 2 and is the subject in the movie "A Bridge to Far". (The WW2 Operation known as Operation Market Garden.) The bridge crosses the lower Rhine.

Arnhem War Museum

Operation Market Garden was an Allied military operation during the Second World War fought in the German-occupied Netherlands from 17 to 25 September 1944. Its objective was to create a 64 mi salient into German territory with a bridgehead over the Nederrijn, creating an Allied invasion route into northern Germany.

The Tank Museum is a collection of armoured fighting vehicles at Bovington Camp in Dorset, South West England. It is about 1 mile north of the village of Wool and 12 miles west of the major port of Poole. The collection traces the history of the tank.

Gamla Linköping Open Air Museum

The Gamla Linköping Open Air Museum is one of Östergötland's largest visitor destinations and one of Sweden's most visited museums, with 450,000 visitors every year. Here, history comes alive and you can experience the city, countryside and forest as they were a hundred years ago. They offer lots of activities and experiences for both young and old, and you will also find shops, cafes, restaurants and accommodations.

The Eagle's Nest -kehlsteinhaus

The Kehlsteinhaus (known in English as the Eagle's Nest) is a Nazi-constructed building erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop that rises above Obersalzberg near the southeast German town of Berchtesgaden. It was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings.
​Dachau was one of the first concentration camps built by Nazi Germany and the longest running one, opening on 22 March 1933.

This one-room museum was quite an experience! It's an opportunity to view a private collection so don't expect a large, well-curated selection. We highly recommend to stop in to this great little museum!
POLAND
The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum is a museum on the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland. The site includes the main concentration camp at Auschwitz I and the remains of the concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
AUSTRIA
Fortress Hohensalzburg

Hohensalzburg Fortress is a large medieval fortress in the city of Salzburg, Austria. It sits atop the Festungsberg mountain at an altitude of 506 m. It was erected at the behest of the prince-archbishops of Salzburg. The fortress is 250 m long and 150 m wide making it one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.
CANADA
HMCS Haida National Historic Site

Canada’s history of wartime naval service is on display aboard legendary HMCS Haida, a Tribal class destroyer that served in the Second World War, the Korean Conflict and the Cold War. Distinguished in several historic battles, the flagship of the Royal Canadian Navy now proudly rests in Hamilton.

Fort York is an early 19th-century military fortification in the Fort York neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The fort was used to house members of the British and Canadian militaries, and to defend the entrance of the Toronto Harbour.
