ANCESTORS IN WAR
Jack's commitment extends beyond mere visual documentation. He has been diligently working on creating comprehensive biographies of soldiers, immersing himself in the personal narratives of his ancestors who served in war. Notably, his meticulous research has culminated in the recently completed biography of his great grandfather, Frederick William Doran of the 19th Bn. C.E.F; a soldier who bravely served in Ypres during World War One. This compelling account has been duly recognized and has been added to the ongoing project of documenting soldiers' stories at the museum.
We should all reflect on the legacy of these exceptional men and woman who braved both World War One and World War Two, to remind us of the immense debt of gratitude we owe them. Their extraordinary acts of courage serve as a poignant reminder of the human spirit, the innate desire for peace, and the preciousness of freedom. May their sacrifices forever be etched in our memories, and may we, the younger generations, carry the torch of remembrance, ensuring that the stories and history of our families are never forgotten!
This is A Coy Detachment, Draft No. 44, that proceeded overseas on
2 May 1918. They were trained in Canada by my great-grandfather Lt. F.W. Doran seated front and centre, flanked by another lieutenant and a sergeant.
